USCG P1AR Hoist Operator Proficiency Course (P-Course)
Priority 1 Air Rescue (P1AR) delivers a comprehensive 5-day Hoist Operator Proficiency Course (P-Course) designed for:
- U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Flight Mechanics
Utilizing P1AR's Advanced Aircrew Mission Simulator (AAMS), the P-Course provides intensive, high-repetition, scenario-based training focused on hoist operations, aircrew coordination, cabin management, hoist emergency procedures, Crew Resource Management (CRM), and mission execution in a realistic, risk-free training environment.
Students participate in day and night Search and Rescue (SAR) scenarios that replicate the demanding operational missions routinely flown, including inland confined-area rescues, mountain rescue operations, maritime vessel hoisting, overwater rescue swimmer missions, urban flood response, personnel recovery, and law enforcement aviation operations.
Individual or Full-unit Enrollment accepted: P1AR welcomes both individual students and full-unit enrollments. Units do not need to provide a full class to benefit from the training. A single student may attend the course, and P1AR will customize training scenarios, skill stations, and mission profiles to reflect that student's specific operational duties and SAR mission requirements at their home unit.
Prerequisite: Students must be a current, qualified Hoist Operator assigned to an operational aviation unit. The P-Course is intended for proficiency enhancement and advanced mission training, not initial hoist operator qualification.
Training is customized to each student's primary SAR mission set: Prior to training, P1AR assesses the missions routinely flown by participating aircrews and tailors simulator scenarios and training events to maximize operational relevance. Training is customized to each student's primary SAR mission set, aircraft profile, agency operating procedures/checklists, and unit-specific mission requirements. For example, units that primarily conduct inland SAR, mountain rescue, disaster response, or law enforcement aviation operations will receive increased emphasis on confined-area hoisting, urban flood rescues, and inland SAR & Mountain rescue scenarios. Conversely, aircrews routinely engaged in maritime vessel operations and overwater rescue swimmer missions will receive expanded training in maritime vessel hoisting, open ocean rescue swimmer insertion and extraction procedures, and maritime SAR tactics.
Projected 75-100 Hoist Iterations: Using P1AR’s AAMS synthetic mission scenarios, students can complete approximately 75–100 hoist iterations during the 5-day course, significantly enhancing proficiency, standardization, confidence, decision-making, and crew coordination. The curriculum emphasizes advanced hoisting techniques, rescue swimmer operations, vessel hoisting procedures, cable management, and mission-focused SAR tactics that cannot be safely or consistently replicated in live-aircraft training.
High Risk Hoist Emergency Procedures: P1AR AAMS ensures all SAR crews are thoroughly familiar with aircraft hoist-related emergency procedures and can immediately perform corrective action while performing hoist rescue in various on-scene environments (i.e., mountain, confined area, overwater, offshore platforms, and vessels). Hoist Eps include Hoist Failures, ICS Failures, Hoist Electrical Runaways, Hoist Entanglements, Fouled Cable, Emergency Fly-Away with RS on Rescue Hook, RS in trouble and needs assistance and more.
Max Students Per Course: Limited to a maximum of four students per course, the P-Course delivers individualized instruction, extensive hands-on repetitions, and maximum instructor engagement to ensure measurable improvements in operational readiness and mission effectiveness.
Pricing: $7,500 per student or $30,000 for a dedicated four-student course. (Volume Discount are available for Full Course Buy out or reservations of 4 or more Individual Courses. Please contact us if interested).
Pricing does not include students associated travel, lodging, per diem, rental vehicle.
Hoist Currency and Proficiency Credit
The P1AR Advanced Aircrew Mission Simulator (AAMS) enables students to complete approximately 75–100 hoist iterations during the 5-day P-Course. Depending on the policies, regulations, and training authorization of the student's parent organization, these simulator-based hoist evolutions may be eligible for credit toward individual hoist currency, proficiency, or minimum training requirements further reducing live flight training time at the unit level. It is the responsibility of each agency, unit, or training authority to determine whether AAMS-completed hoist iterations may be applied toward six-month, annual, or other recurring hoist proficiency requirements. P1AR will provide training records documenting completed hoist iterations and simulator events for students to submit through their respective chain of command or training department for consideration and approval.
